Drummer & Percussionist, Luke Herbert was born in Sydney Australia. Herbert is an International musician having started his musical journey at age 7, studying classical piano. Since then he has not stopped studying and playing music.

 


At age 12 and during high school he studied drum kit under several teachers starting with Al Jackson Jr grooves. Also during high school, he received a position in the drumline in the world's largest marching band, the 2000-member Olympic Band studying under David Glyde ( Blue Devils) playing in the Sydney 2000 opening Ceremony Olympics and related events. Luke then went on to Study Classical Percussion at University majoring in Avant Garde and contemporary classical music. 
While living in Newyork city Luke studied drums with the late,  great, Joe Morello (Dave Brubeck Quartet)  and world-renowned studio drummer Bernard Purdie

 

 


Luke has had a varied career as a session musician and touring drummer, in Australia he has worked with many prominent and varied artists.

Grammy Award Winning - Lucky Oceans Album Launch drumming alongside Paul Kelly, Don Walker (Cold Chisel), Catherine Brit, Troy Cassar Daley, and Kasey Chambers. He has also played with Greedy Smith (Mental As Anything), Kevin Bennett and The Flood,
Warren H Williams, Fanny Lumsden, Ella Hooper ( X Killing Hiedi) Buddy Knox, William Crighton, Jesse Redwing, Phil Manning (chain), Lindsay wells, Mitch Anderson, Harry Brus Band, Ray Beadle, Mal Eastick, John Waters - Dylan Revisited, Kris Morris, Ciaran Gribbin( Former INXS) , Christiee Lamb, Mike McClellan, Luke O' Shea and Medicine Wheel,

​Luke was based in Music City, Nashville, the USA for several years. sponsored Tommy Emmanuel's management company as a studio and touring musician, LUKE JOINED “The Deep Vibration” (Dual-tone Records). Notably named by the late great, Lou Reed. The deep vibration toured extensively across the USA for several years playing many festivals and gigs including the SXSW festival, they released an EP and full-length record to critical acclaim during their time together.


In Nashville Luke also worked as a studio and session musician with many notable artists including Andrew Combs, Simon Bruce, Caitlin Rose, Jesse and Noah Bellamy, Daniel Tashian (Kasey Musgraves producer) & The Silversea's and in Sessions alongside studio greats such as Al Perkins, Spooner Oldham and producer Niko Bolas.

 

After many years based in the inner west of Sydney, Luke has now settled down on the Central Coast NSW where he has been based since late 2022. You can study drums with Luke in Erina where he teaches at Music Works Studio. 


As of 2023 Luke can be found recording and touring on the festival and live circuit with Murray Cook ( Original Red Wiggle) and The Soul Movers fronted by Lizzie Mac. Recent Festival highlights have been Splendour in The Grass (2022), and Thredbo Blues Fest (2023).  He also plays around with Jesse Redwing's band and Kevin Bennett & The Flood amongst many others. Luke also likes to stay active in the studio recording many different types of projects. He has recently been working on a record with Jesse Redwing and Tate Sheridans' debut record. Tate has recently been the support act for Elton Johns's farewell tour.

In addition to Luke's musical career, he has been working hard over the past couple of years setting up his online teaching school, Pocket Percussion. Luke is passionate about Education & passing on his knowledge and inspiring future generations to musicians.
